The Southern Aegean is one of Türkiye's most distinctive culinary regions, where simple recipes and exceptional ingredients – the hallmarks of the world-famous “Mediterranean Diet” – take centre stage. Olive oil, seasonal vegetables, wild herbs and delicious meze reflect a cuisine shaped by the sea, fertile hillsides and the Mediterranean climate. Beautiful Bays and Pristine Waters
Loryma is ideally placed for days by the sea, with three distinct bays just minutes away. Turunç Beach, easily reached by our complimentary shuttle, offers calm water, a lively waterfront and a good choice of cafés, restaurants and shops.
Further along the coast, Amos Bay and Kumlubük, both accessible by car, taxi or boat, offer two different beach experiences. Amos lies beneath pine-covered hills beside the remains of the ancient city of the same name. Its clear water and rocky seabed make it especially attractive for swimming and snorkelling. Kumlubük is a wide bay with both sandy and pebbled stretches, ideal for swimming, sunbathing or spending the day at a relaxed beach club, many favoured by sailors exploring the Aegean coast.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL TREASURES
Discoveries from Amos to Knidos
The Bozburun and neighbouring Datça Peninsulas are home to one of Türkiye's richest concentrations of ancient Carian settlements, many of which are interconnected by the Carian Trail, Türkiye’s longest long-distance hiking route. More than seventeen archaeological sites have been identified across the region of Bozburun Peninsula, many of them still being excavated and revealing new discoveries.
The closest site to Loryma Resort Hotel is Amos, at a distance of a 15 minute car drive, or reached on foot from Kumlubük or by a scenic hike from Loryma. Amos was one of the most important ancient cities on the Bozburun Peninsula, strategically overlooking the bay and controlling maritime trade routes along the Carian coast. Today, visitors can explore the remarkably well-preserved theatre, city walls and temple remains while enjoying panoramic views over Turunç Bay.
A rewarding day trip leads through the village of Turgut, home to the enigmatic Pyramid Tomb of Diagoras of Rhodes, an olympic boxing champion from the 5th century BC. His tomb at the edge of the ancient city of Hydas is believed to be unique in the archeological landscape of Türkiye and has been venerated as a shrine by local population until very recently.
Onward to the Temple of the healing demigoddess Hemithea at ancient Kastabos above the hills of Hisarönü Village, ancient Bybassos, travellers can take in the mystic scenery and sweeping views of one of Caria's most important sacred sanctuaries from the 1st century BC, with the remains of its temple, theatre and several facilities.
To the south, explore the remains of Loryma, our resort’s name giver, the ancient fortified harbour guarding the entrance to Bozburun Bay, or visit Phoinix, hidden among the hills above Taşlıca, where the remains of temples, city walls and terraces blend into the surrounding landscape.
For those wishing to venture further, the spectacular ruins of Knidos, at the tip of the Datça Peninsula, are among Türkiye's most impressive archaeological sites. One of the greatest pleasures of the peninsula is simply following its winding roads from village to village. Every stop has its own character, rewarding visitors with beautiful scenery, local flavours and genuine hospitality.
Begin with Bayır, a traditional mountain village centred around a centuries-old plane tree shading the square between the tea house and mosque. Browse small shops selling local honey, herbs, homemade preserves and handcrafted goods while enjoying views across ancient agricultural terraces.
Further south, Selimiye has grown from a quiet fishing and almond-growing village into one of the most sought-after destinations on the Turkish coast. Its elegant waterfront restaurants, boutique hotels and marina attract yachts, discerning travellers and city dwellers throughout the summer.
Bozburun remains the heart of Türkiye's traditional wooden boatbuilding. Family-run shipyards still to craft the famous gulets by hand, preserving a maritime tradition that has made the peninsula known around the world.
